The Benefits of Salt Therapy

Most people associate salt with high blood pressure, or hypertension. But little do most of us know is that salt has some pretty amazing healing properties. This past week I indulged in two sessions of salt therapy. I have come away with a whole new appreciation of salt.

During college, I earned a research scholarship to study archaea, which are single-celled organisms with impressive genetic makeup. Archaea are halophiles, meaning they love salt. Most every living organism cannot survive in extreme salt condition. Archaea not only survive, they thrive. I realized the intense effects of salt during these studies.

Fast forward 10 years and I'm gifted a voucher for three sessions at The Salt Retreat in Frisco, TX. I was super curious and arrived eager to check it out. Before beginning my session, the owners took me on a tour and explained the potential benefits of salt therapy. Here are some conditions and symptoms that can be relieved:

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Dermatitis

  • Acne

  • Asthma

  • Hay Fever and Allergies

  • Bronchitis

  • Common Colds

  • Croup

  • Cystic Fibrosis

  • Sinusitis

  • Pneumonia

  • Emphysema

  • COPD

  • Chronic ENT Illnesses

Salt therapy can even assist athletes in faster, smoother recovery, as inflammation in the lungs is reduced, allowing for improved oxygen absorption. Salt also has a relaxing effect that can stimulate sleep.

Certainly regular sessions will build upon each other and produce better results. My next session is coming up and I'm looking forward to some unplugged time while supporting my body's immune and inflammatory processes. They offer both group and private adult rooms, as well as a super cute kids room!
